How much do you pay your accountant...?

    Hi everyone

I love my accountant, he's great, he really is. I trust him with my life...or at least my money, which is the same thing I suppose.

Anyway, I pay him £1600 (£1880 with vat) per year, which I always thought was probably fair, but I just spoke to him today and he informed me that he would be charging me an extra £500 for sorting out adding my wife to the company as a shareholder. Obviously, I balked a bit at this...

So, how much do you pay your accountant?
Would you expect all extra work to be covered in that fee?

Any info would be greatly appreciated

£75 a month plus Vat and that includes the Missus being a Class B shareholder and them preparing SATR for both of us.
£500 to cover off a form registering your missus at Companies house - sounds like about 5000% profit.

about £1200 inc of VAT. And that is what I thought was the higher end of the market. Doesn't really bother me as I get a good service etc etc etc. £1880 seems like a lot and £500 to issue a share cert seems like he's trying to milk you. Can't you do it yourself via companies house ?

I got charged £250 for forming a company by my local accountant then I realised could do it online for about £30 so I would check with companies house about your wife.

About £1200 + VAT for doing all returns, VAT, etc. He is not the best in the world and occasionally needs a nudge. I wouldn't recommend him and keep meaning to change, but unfortunately I have a huge amount of 'can't be a$$ed gene'.

            £250 a year.

Divis, payroll and end of year accounts plus all companies house stuff for a 3 shareholder company(2 man band). I do the expenses, invoicing, VAT and reconciliation using Xero.

Got my personal tax return FOC as well

I hardly think this helps answer the OP's original question.

I pay 995+vat and he is useless. I have to push him for everything all the time. He gets it right but wouldn't do a thing if I wasn't on his case. Just too busy to change at the moment.

Some accountants particularly the ones who post on here will do company formation for you free as long as you stay with them for a year. (Hence why it's a good idea to get a recommendation.)

                  Why?

OP said - So, how much do you pay your accountant?

                    Thanks everyone

The feeling i'm getting is that i'm paying a lot for my accountant, but i'm in the minority of actually having a decent accountant...so I guess it's horses for courses. I think the moral of the story is - for me anyway - to always ask up front how much he's going to fecking charge me for a piece of work before he begins it!

                    Lessons learnt, etc, and on.

                    Thanks everyone
