    Contracting at Goldman

    Hello,

Looking for feedback from those who have contracted with GS in that past or are currently contracting there....the experience like?

How many hours per day do GS expect their contractors to work?

I have a 3 hour daily commute...so this is important to me.

I very much doubt they will bend over to accomodate your commute. 3 hours a day is nothing btw.

If it is 1.5 hours each way, then that is nothing really.

If 3 hr each way, yes then you need to think twice.

The fact the OP says 3 hours daily I would say that is in total and I would give my right arm for a 3 hour commute

There is no way of saying is a company like this or like that. They are so big each department will have it's own style depending on the managers. One area might have a good old boy looking after it and another might have a dictator so it is impossible to tell what it will be like just by asking about the whole company.

          WHS

Having a good manager or a possessed manager make all the difference when it comes to expected work load.

I commute 2 hours each day (1 each way) and that is only from North London to the City!

          GL and just keep invoicing.

The permies at Goldmans do the longest hours probably of any bank, and regularly work at the weekend, or so I heard from a frriend who worked for Goldmans in Frankfurt, no idea about contractors though. She found it difficult to get out the office before 9 o clock.
              I'm alright Jack

I was at GS for a while in 2004 in fleet street.

Was strictly 9-5 and I got the impression that most others were the same. That was doing IT infrastructure.

Once some permies had to pull an all nighter when something went wrong.

On the odd night I stayed late (say after 6pm), it wasn't a big deal for me as I was in a hotel 2 minutes away, there were very few others around.

Obviously could be very different in other departments.
