My Monday working for an Indian Company ( sudden surprise )!

    Quick Summary:
    -------------------

    - signed up with an Indian company that have a contract for something they know nothing about ( a major bank's cashpoint authorization upgrade )

    - squeezed extra 48 / day out of them half-way through the contract

    - the bank brings in outside help from 2 expert companies charging 850 and 1200 per contractor day

    - work my ass off fixing offshore-initiated problems

    - renewal next week - needed anout 15% to make it worth my while, agent spoke with them, they said "we can't do that - we cancel the contract"

    - return a call from linkedin message I received from a former client on the 11th last week - he offers work that starts yesterday, pays almost double and I can do it from home

    The Now Read This part:
    -----------------------------

TWO YEARS WORK ( as mentioned from home ) FOR THE CLIENT ( direct billing ) WHO IS BUILDING AND MANAGING AN ENTIRE OFFSHORE CASHPOINT INFRASTRUCTURE WITH 3750 CASHPOINTS!!!

    Where are these cashpoints??

YES Bank to roll out ATMs on outsourced model : Rupee Times

Wonder why this work is not being performed ONSHORE by local companies? I don't.

I think they worked out that hiring 60 indians at £100 per day who don't know what their doings,
is more expensive than 4 western contractors at £1,200 who can do the needful.

A new computer system at the forefront of a bid by the Metropolitan Police to save cash is running six months late and £10m over budget.

I assume this is because of ' good work' by western companies /employees

        I am not surprised.

In a critical report, a fifth of firms claimed they were required to "pick up the pieces" after children left school unable to perform everyday tasks.

Research from the Confederation of British Industry found that low-levels of basic literacy and numeracy hindered workers’ ability to gather information from standard texts, compose coherent memos, work out price discounts in their heads or even calculate customers’ change.

Hi Vladimir ( or is it really Vladish ),

Fortunately I was not educated in England ( I'm from Canada ) and your attempt at an insult to a Brit was wasted. That said, I have seen a very high level of competance in the British IT people I have worked with over the years.

Whether you are from Mumbai or Moscow, it's irrelevant. I've seen very little quality coming from the East. If Eastern coders were producing ANY quality, the rates for you monkeys would reflect that. The rates don't and never have in any of the 8 or so odd countries I've contracted in.

          Cheers

Herman.. i do not know your exp and i do not know with how many eastern european developers you have tagged with. But, with my exp in eastern europeans they are solid in coding and they are very productive.

            So, please keep quiet.

I wouldn't say most are, but some definitely are. The ratio of good ones might be lower than the west but doesn't mean it's not worth looking.
