Dont know where people get this idea 190 is a 'good' rate for Newcastle.

I've worked on several projects in and around the city. My highest rate was £350 a day. Even my lowest for my first ever contract was £200 back in 97 and within 3 months, I'd upped that to £250 a day.
I couldn't give two fornicators! Yes, really!

        You may be right!

Serious though, I havent found rates in Newcastle to be 'bad.' At Longbenton on the Aspire project, they were paying 275 pd and above for TA's.

I'm not saying it's good, just OK.

If it's what i think it is, the only reason they're advertising it at all is because the contractor will need clearance, ie have been resident in the UK for the past 5 years.

If this wasn't the case they would have flown a dude in on whatever they'd get paid in India and not even bothered to advertise the role.

Metrics from the 80s, showed that a good developer was 20x more productive than an average developer, and some 50x more productive than a bad developer, when measured in TCO over the life of programs - so including maintenance etc.

                  Newcastle rates

I was in the same location in November 2001. 275 was what I started on and went to 300 after renewal. That was as a UAT TA. That rate continued for projects through to 2003 in Washington. Then the market picked up and I've been in the 'Soft' south close to home ever since.......

350 seems a pretty good rate for a TA role.
