Dont feel down... I've been on the bench so far this year and been looking for the best part of a fortnight... so far nearly the same experiences as you. I need to put some feelers out... I am looking for PM roles ideally based in Midlands or down south (London) Telcos looks to be very quiet and I am on the way to claiming my JSA atleast that'll cover the weekly shop!

I am a man who like to be making money and being busy! Come on FTSE - give us some cheer
    Never Never Never give up

      Ever heard of Plan B?

I'm already working on Plan B and my first contract starts next week.

If your a systems developer then develop one and try and sell it. Even better find somebody who needs a system, do it for cheap then try and sell it on.

        Hmm things ain't hot...try a 3/4 salary drop!!

well I've worked as a structured cabler for just under 15 years and have been installing Epos systems for the last 5 years, I've applied for over 1000 jobs, largely via the net, I have a suspicion these are balltulip ghost jobs, fabricated to make the jobs and employment markets look more boyant. I managed to secure two interviews in the last half of 09.
My last tax year saw a 3/4 salary drop, to less than 6k, I'd be better off on the dole..
So to say things are bad out there is a mild understatement, though cheap foreign labour has produced many UK compnaies profit, us UK guys to be forced out of work as agencies use cheaper foreign labour.
This happened years ago with cablesh*p subbing in and advertising in SA...that was nothing compared to what we have to put up with these days.
15 years and I'm out, gonna retrain and become a chippy or plumber, then emigrate to a more prosperous country.
With over 70 years of cabling history in the family, it's all over now.

I believe there are several websites devoted to this kind of thing already.

If it's any consolation, I've been off contract since last July. Would glady swap places with anyone who is working!
If your company is the best place to work in, for a mere £500 p/d, you can advertise here.

Was on the bench for 8 months last year and almost gave up, nearly took on a cheap permie role to tide things over, but I kept on applying and finally got a role for a job I'd never applied for!

              Chin Up!
Who has time? Who has time? But then if we do not ever take time, how can we ever have time?

I was off for 3 months last year, and sent my CV for several hundred jobs.
Eventually got a call direct from a client for a 4 month contract, and was working within 2 days.

It seems that things happen when you don't expect them to for some reason.

Now been looking since the beginning of Jan, with not too much success so far. I am even considering permie roles to tide me over for now.

I have to admit I was panicking alot. But have since thought there is no point because if you do, you will only get stressed at interviews, and that gets you nowhere.

Good luck mate, I am sure something will come to fruition sooner or later... Just hope is not later....

Another way of looking at it would be that agents and job boards are useless.

Or the fact that most of the jobs that are advertised do not exist.......

Don't look at that as a one way deal though. Loads of real jobs never get advertised because the agent has enough candidates not too bother with Jobserve. Apply for as many jobs and get your CV out to as many agencies as possible and they'll call you before advertising a gig. I'm 4 out the last 5 gigs that I haven't applied for, I've been called about before they were advertised.
