To the original poster - I hope things pick up for you.

I was out of the game for 9 months last year. I have VBA/SQL but a lot of the jobs I was interested in required knowledge of C#/Java so I did a two week course in Java in preparation for the SCJP. Didn't do it in the end, and still have no chance of getting a role requiring Java or C# (similar syntax imo), but hope to get stuck into it again when I am unemployed again (potentially before the end of the month). Reskill or die I'm afraid.

VBA is the butt of most jokes in the IT fraternity (I come from a Finance background so that's how I got into it) so I'm always looking to practice anything else - not easy trying to get a job in a language in which you have no commercial experience in this market mind.

Make the most of the time off whilst you are off, enjoy it and stop moaning about it. 1.5 months is nothing compared to some other benchers on here. Stay positive.

1.5 months!? **** me, some people have a short attention span!

Just got contacted about a 6 month role paying, oh, all of £150 a day! Nope, not worth it on those figures.
I couldn't give two fornicators! Yes, really!

Not many Unix SA contracts in Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire at the moment, and the ones that have popped up IVe applied for. I had one phone interview and am still waiting, 1.5 weeks later so I dont have much faith for that one. The other position was filled internally.

Have you noticed how companies now want pretty much every skill in one person ? "unix sa required that has solaris, linix, hp-ux, aix, oracle, sybase, web developer. £210 pd" Everything for nothing. I got a call this morning, a great SA role, up in Derby for 110 pd.:-(

Out of recession ? My arse ! Although better, the market is still poor and Im hoping Febuary will be better as budgets, projects become finalised and recruited for.

Anyone else in the same boat ?? Just wanted to vent my frustration to my contracting brothers and sisters ! Althought nice to be at home, Im now at the point where I need to get out or Im going to throttle my partner :-)

I am going to message the admin , get your ip , look up your address , wait for you and hit you on the head. Try 1.5 years off work.

Im sorry gents, just having a down day. Obviously there are people in a worse situation and been on the bench longer.

I never enjoy time off as I beat myself up about about seeking a new contract, but when Im in a contract Im always daydreaming about time off :-)

Ive got faith though, historically Ive always found Febuary a good month.

I get lots of emails from recruitment companies / sites regarding contract jobs, perhaps we should have a new thread and put these job details into it so guys on this site can see. You guys might being seeing jobs that might interest me and vice versa ??
