I sometimes give them 24 hours then call. Mainly to get my CV out of the pile he probably has and it seems to work.

I'll only call if I am VERY interested in the role though. And if I get the normal 'away from his desk' flannel I won't bother calling back.
    Older and ...well, just older!!

I do much the same (just did in fact) and I absolutely agree on the "away from his desk" bit.

If they don't, then no phone call is going to change their mind.
Fingers crossed then, I applied for a role yesterday and my phone was ringing within 60 seconds of hitting the 'Apply' button.

Got an email confirming CV submission too, 3 other agents have called so I must be a good match and in with a shout.

Yes always worth following up especially if its a really good contract. Recruiters can get hundreds of CV's in days from jobsites and their database so apart from a great CV well worth ringing to put you front of mind. makes their life easier as well as they can screen you at the same time. Dont wait for things to come to you.....

Never a truer word spoken. Agents are unlikely to read 200+ CV's - they use keyword searches so unless you have every qualification under the sun such that you pass the keywords search you wont even get looked at.
You can of course get around that through clever wording of your cv

I'm afraid that I have found lately that I just can't get past the Rottweilers who picks up the phones. I think this has got much, much worse the last year or so since the number of CV's available for any given role has gone through the roof.

I used to email a CV off, get a call on my mobile within 20 minutes, have an interview lined up within the day and get to start the following Monday. Oh how it has changed.

                  WHS and

there is an idiot giving this advise on Contractors' Questions: How to get my CV noticed?

Expert’s Answer: Prepare a CV for each specific position. Ask the agency to give you the most details possible, so you can adjust your CV to that position while remaining truthful.
If the f**cker on the phone just says "send your CV and it will be reviewed" then this piece of advice is tulipe!

Its not just keyword matching its ranking how many times the CV mentions the same keyword.

So I guess if you are a Java developer you need to mention the keyword Java in every role.

There are also more ads with fake names on them.
