I gained my SC clearance in Nov 2008 and left that contract May 2009 , my understanding is that my clearance is therefore valid untill May 2010 . Within the last month i have started and finished another contract that reqd clearance but my clearance was not transferred to the IT company that i carried out the work for , therefore my question would be is my clearance still valid untill May 2010 or 12 months from the work carried out for the second contract? thanks Geoff .

Didn't think that was possible. I always took "SC Clearance highly desirable" to mean "if you ain't got it, don't waste your time"Comment

But at the moment, with so many contractors on the bench, there will be loads with SC or even DV clearance already out there. My all-time favourite Dilbert cartoon, this is: BTW, a Dumpster is a brand of skip, I think.Comment

The problem is not getting clearance - it's not actually that hard - but getting the damn agency to put you forward for the role without it (which is against the rules, but hey ho). The client can't offer to clear you if they don't know you exist and have no visibility of your skills...Blog? What blog...?Comment

The agency is acting on their client's instruction. The agencies I have spoken to simply aren't interested in non-cleared applicants, however well the skill set may match, because it is too much hassle for their client even for long contracts.Numbly tolerating the inequality as a way to achieve greater prosperity for all.Comment
