Apparently we have adverstised for certain number of positions - VOIP/Cisco/Nortel/ISP type stuff, and ended up with only half the number suitable candidates. Also looks like we are going to loose most of them due to the agency messing them around on rates role descriptions.

Some of the rates advertised were very low, and some were normal, depending on who was advertising them. I suspect we got a number of below par applications due to the agents taking far too much in comission, and those who did apply and were succesfull were mislead.

[QUOTE=sweetandsour;848599]We have all heard the stories that the number of applicants per role is in the hundreds.

And they are all from applicants requiring work permits wanting to work for peanuts

They place adverts with no contact details and when you apply for jobs that you are suited for and have the highest level of qualifications you hear nothing.

          I understand that there are hundreds of applicants for each role but when you have 10 years blue chip experience in the field that they advertising for and you hear nothing then it has got to be one of two things;

          A) The job doesnt exist
          B) They are obviously working with candidates that they have worked with before and favour

The letter here is surely dangerous for said recruitment CO as they might not be supplying the correct level of candidate required by the employer. Trust me I have experienced this from recruiting myself.

          Anybody else have any opinions.
As has been said, the reason for not responding is just the sheer number of applications they recieve for any position at the moment. End of the day, they will only send over 5 to 10 CVs to the client. So (IMO) they put the add out, come back in an hour and read the CVs until they have the 5 to 10 send across, then move onto the next deal with none of the other CVs even getting read. So given all the stories of 100 cvs per hour, most positions will be closed within a morning! Just my thoughts.

Had some recent discussions with friends at finance firms currently hiring. Positions aren't always getting filled quickly, since numerous shortlisted candidates are flagrantly embellishing their experience to fit the job spec

I had a great one today.

Cold call from agent. I couldn't answer because I was driving.
              He left this voicemail:

"Hi Cheeseslice, I'm Joe B from Bloggs&Co agency. I've seen your CV and have a great opportunity that I'd like to speak to you about. If you're interested please call me back"

No contact number provided in voicemail. His phone number / callerID was withheld.
No email sent with job spec or contact details.
              Nothing.

What was the point of that?

Well its true from my side of the fence also in public land....

Interviewed so many people recently for roles and the agencies are just mailing the CV's as quick as they can get them or sending across 10 straight away. The quality of people have been so so poor.

There is one agency X who advertise themselves like below

Standard daily rate Agency X daily rates
                400 300

And you can see with the quality........

He gave you his name and the name of the company he works for. What else do you need, Sherlock?

If only there were some sort of globally searchable resource you could use. Something which could be accessed from anywhere.....

I think the snag might be that such a global, searchable resource might return quite a few different offices of the same firm so you'd not know which one to call. But then again my name isn't Sherlock.
