Zero contract Test roles on Jobserve in the last 48 hours...

and then to top it off just got this email...

I am currently recruiting for an experienced Test Lead/Manager to work on a major project based in the Birmingham area for my well known Automotive client.

The test lead must have a minimum of 3-5 years test management experience, in terms of being responsible for delivering testing on a project. In addition, you also must have excellent technical knowledge of software infrastructure and managing deliverables from third part suppliers. Please note I am not looking for any candidates who are Senior Test Analysts or have minimal experience as a Test Lead. I’m looking for a solid test manager.

If you fit this description and are available immediately for a minimum 6 month contract, please reply asap.
Please note the rate for this role is £175 a day.

A permie would earn more than that

Times are getting even more bleak........DOOMED!

If that is a real gig, I very much doubt that anyone in teh car industry can find funding for anything at the moment.

I know guys connected to Land Rover and everything is hour by hour at the moment it's that bad!
    Signatures.....what's the point?

The gig I am due to start shortly was supposed to be hiring 5 contract testers as well. I recommended a friend to the agency for 1 of the test roles.

He just found out the roles are all being outsourced to India.

£850 a week is better than eating into your warchest!

Sausage, I don't think you understand....
Permies earning more (after tax) will soon be the manufactured norm for a very long time.

I'm in the MOSS / MS area and there is some weak demand. 2/3 calls per day. OK 50% of those are worthless.

Had a project lined up with an old client, but that was cancelled at the last minute.

This is my 6th week of bench time. These are very tough times at the moment. I don't think anyone has any idea how bad it's going to get or when it will recover.

On the bright side things move much more quickly in the economy these days. So it's likely that any recovery will be swift. However, the worry is that we are just on the edge of a full blown depression.

Yea - I do general microsoft .net/asp stuff and there isn't much out there (I live near Southampton). Been benched since January when the client started laying off permies, and my previous company is laying off too

... and now Bargain Hunt isn't on the telly any more so the days are even more dull.

This is my approach for test roles at the moment. Beggars can't be choosers, and there are so many of us looking and so little to look at.

                  That's more like it.
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

Gulp. Should I put my MOSS training manual back on the shelf then?
