30 seconds, and I want two references from you first, and a detailed breakdown of where youve had interviews recently. 'The client authorised it'.

mcquiggd is acting in the role of a recruitment agency for the duration of this p*ss taking post. Now feck off.

Is this just a ploy to out all the agents on here?

Ok, bad pracitces for contractors, an example from today:

Me: I have a contract role at XYZ. Its 6 months, starting asap, paying £400/day, needing A, B and C skills. Are you interested?
        Contractor: Yes.
Me: Have you been spoken to about company XYZ?
Contractor: No, I have never had my CV sent there.
Me: Excellent, I'll call the manager now and see if he would like to interview you.
        -------------------------------
Manager: I interviewed this guy last week and rejected him becuase he is not technically strong enough. Don't you qualify your candidates at all? If all you are going to do is send me CVs that I've already seen then there's not much point in me using you is there?
        -------------------------------
Me: Funny thing happened, the manager said he interviewed you last week?
Contractor: Um , I did as it happens.
Me: But you said you hadn't been down there?
Contractor: Yes, but I, um, I don't have to tell you where I've interviewed.
        SLAMS PHONE DOWN ON ME!
        -----------------------------

While I appreciate that you guys might find this situation amusing, this could have severe repercussions for my business.

I know this is a site for contractors and also I am a contractor.

Even if we dont agree, its always interesting to see things from the opposite person's point of view.

The results of this should be that either we have a bigger slanging match or we have an American style group hug .

In this case I suspect the contractor considers you an as*hole and has therefore decided to waste your time. If many contractors consider you thus, then eventually you will get no business from clients and the market will have cleansed you from the system. So all in all I see this as a good thing.

I'm pleased to hear that. It's always nice to know when you are about to be 'cleansed'.

Well, what do you expect? With all the lies and deceit practiced by agents, are you really suprised that the people you live off might actually return the favour once in a while?

              'Its a live role'

'You have to email me confirmation you will accept the contract in the next 30 minutes - the client insists on it'

'The client insists I take two references before I submit your CV'

'Thankyou for submitting your CV to XYZ (which I hadnt). In order to process your application we need at least two references... etc etc'.

'We are updating our database and would like to know if you are still available for work. Please reply detailing any recent jobs interviews you have had, including name of the manager, and contact details'

'I saw your CV in Jobserve, I have a permanent role based in Plymouth' (to a contractor based in Edinburgh).

'Would you consider a permanent role with a leading consultancy in London, offering a generous salary of 30k'

              '7 years experience of C#'

              'Experience of Sequel Server'

The list of rubbish spewed by agents is endless......

Did you ever think that it's the lies and deceit of the contractor that makes the agents use these dodgy tricks?

                  No.

Good to see an agent admit they use dodgy tactics, though

Well its nice to see a contractor smile and stop moaning about how underpaid he is for once.

                    Miaow.
