    Networking: a dying art?

How many people on here actually network? Is it a dying art? Discuss.

Since the likes of Linkedin, keeping in touch with my existing network is easy now.

Business cards are a waste of space IMO with everyone changing jobs/phone numbers so frequently.

IM/MSN is a bit too close and personal for everyone so only works well with really close people and the odd decent customer who you could go drinking with.

Actively 'expanding' my network is something I really know I should do more of, but I really can't be bothered attending so many industry events and user groups (geek fests).

Is there a contractor UK linked in group?
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

      I preferred version 1!

I've been to a couple of safety networking events, but to be honest the people who attend are the people you'd try to avoid down the pub!

          Seems not.
There is a PCG one though.

If I created one - do you think anyone would join? and if I restricted it to CUK members only ( they would have to provide the login name as proof I suppose) would they mind?

might be one to keep invisible on your profile though. Given how much agent bashing goes on here it may keep potential pimps away.

Not sure if that would be a blessing in many ways!

Quite happy to be the groups owner - may hide it from the group directory and ask for a link direct from the home page here.

May put it to a poll.

I would join. One question is how people would feel about losing the anonimity they get on here......!!

I'm not bothered, and have "linked In" to one chap from here recently.
