Who do you have interview with ?

An agent called sating that he'll out my CV forward for the position he advertised and asked if I have any interviews lined up. I said yes and he started asking me about who is the company, what they pay and even who will i have interview with....
..another phishing call ??? I shouldn't be normally revealing this kind of info to the agent, should I ?

Definitely not. Standard answer is "you wouldn't want me to reveal details of my discussions and submissions through you, so I am sure you wouldn't expect me to reveal details of those I may have had with other agents".

...or you could resort to "it's none of your business"

I usually just make stuff up when they start asking those questions.

I use those conversations to make genuine sounding stuff up but at the same time, sow the seeds of a higher rate expectation than I would normally quote on the off chance that the jerk on the other end of the phone actually comes up with a job.

Last time I got one of those I just said I have a couple lined up but it probably wasn't worth calling them, and he laughed and acknowledged I knew what he was up to.

Another time it happened, the pimp denied that was his intention, and went on to describe a contract he was trying to fill - for 15 minutes we talked and when finished he said he would send the job spec but he never did.

You can if you like - it is exactly what he is after. He'll then contact the person who you revealed to him and try and undercut you with another contractor. Remember - agents never call you for your benefit.

those who seriously looking for candidates and have genuine requirement never induldge into this kind of conversation..

This happens with me several times.. I asked them to send me a blank mail and assure them that I will reply with all details which are already typed in to my computer.. 99% times they agree..

if they can fool us with job spec then we can return the favour by not sending the details in mail.. tit for tat

and the ones who think they are clever usually tag on "it's because I work with the vast majority of Clients in the UK and wouldnt want to put you forward to a Client you are already in front of in case it damaged your chances" They really think we are that stupid don't they.
