I'm a ABAP / ABAP Objects developer and BI modeller. Currently on highest rates since I began SAP in 1997 (especially when factoring in exchange rates), and have two large contracts for this year
I'm getting fewer calls/emails from agencies than this time last year. Regionally, the drop-off seems to be proportional to the effects that the global crisis is having on the country in question. If you haven't already got at least two years SAP experience, then forget it.
I've only just recently gotten into BI so i guess its looking bleak then

at least the sun still shines in the morning.... oh shi*

Since I commented on this story previous I thought I'd give you an updated view based on the last couple of weeks.

I think you need to hang in there. I am a SAP PM and have turned away 4 solid contract PM roles this week and a few more permie SAP roles. When I say solid I mean I have the specs in my inbox all from established agencies for respectable companies.

I suggest that this means that SAP projects are being ramped up in line with revised budgets for delivery in the new financial year which means that requirements for tech delivery roles might start coming through shortly after.

PM me if you want any more info.

      Best of luck.

Interesting thread that has drawn me out for my first post on this forum!

What are people's thoughts on SAP Training roles at the moment? As a training consultant / manager with over 10 years all in and the last 3 years in SAP, I've jsut been made redundant from a mjor player in the construction industry as a permanent SAP Lead Trainer and am thinking about reverting back to contract roles, at least in the short term. I've had some positive responses to my CV today, after 1 day of putting myself out there, and have an interview already confirmed for Monday coming.

I notice that a lot of you guys seem to be into configuration as opposed to training etc., is there anyone else about that specialises in Training and / Training Management?
        Signatures.....what's the point?

          Hi Paul, welcome to CUK.

Most companies that I have delivered SAP into normally have an in-house unit that delivers education as a part of a business readiness or existing service management function. In my experience these units usually employ specialist functional consultants to draw out the specific learning content rather than employing a "trainer" per se. Over the last couple of contracts I have seen a shift into using custom e-training templates to train staff, as the delivery costs tend to be lower.

Not also sure if you are saying that you are a training facilitator, or rather a trainer capable of delivering technical or functional training to a userbase?

I would suggest that the latter will be more attractive to employers in coming years and there is a list of 3rd party partner training providers on the SAP UK education portal.

Not a word to be used too close to functional analysts, and for anyone technical, you'd better have your escape route well-planned...

              Thanks.

No I am a technical training consultant not a facilitator. I am well versed at the whole e-Learning methodology but to be honest, nothing beats proper instructor lead training with a decent level of delegate interaction in my view. Don't get me wrong, simluations and the like have their place but they are ONLY of benefit as a post training aid.

I've had a few positive leads today, which is pleasing.

Which modules and functions do you primarily deliver education content for?

If the contract market is depressed in the education arena perhaps you can use your knowledge of these modules and drop sideways into a more practical role such as a business/functional analyst? Obviously there would be a learning curve picking up business processes but you'd need to do this for training delivery anyway.

                Best of luck.
