    IT Project Manager Market

How is anyone finding the IT PM market in the current downturn - generally and more specifically banking / finance ?

I am seeing jobs although appear to be not as many (as with most roles at the moment).

    Interesting to hear any thoughts...

Wait for the upturn at the end of January - pretty quiet until then.

The jury is still out on what year that will be though...

I´m seeing job posts coming through but I reckon the competition is huge at the moment. I had an auto-email from an agency saying they had recieved over 700 applicants for one position...think that was a wind-up though, part of the great conspiracy to convince us to drop our rates!

          Same for BA's

However normally a PM and BA are brought in early in the project, and I don't think there are many projects being started at the moment.

been doing some casual looking and it seems to be the same old.....

As long as you are willing to travel, there seems to be role's available,(though not as many as would be expected)

Money seems to be taking a hit though, ave rate seems to be anything from£250-£450 p/d

I've been told by a few of my regular pimps that they're getting in a hell of a lot more reponses than usual, where they used to get 10-20, its now over a 100 or more depending on the role.

Also the roles are being very specific, rather than the usual generic "lets just get a few contractors in" type roles.

Id agree with this - been told that same - once the crap lot get out of the industry then those that have weathered to storm should be ok!

Yes lots of responses....but a lot of them from idiots who have just done a Prince2 course to get out of being a techie and think that makes them a PM.

Still relatively few experienced PM's out there who can actually do the job and add at least some value.
