    Should I go Contract?

    Hi,

I am currently permanent for a small software house in Slough. Myemployer recently said tht I had to become a contractor. Its a new government legislation or something. To be honest I was not really listening.

They said as a contractor I willget lots of tax breaks so I will be alot better off though they will pay me the same money. Which is great news - I cant wait.

My neighbour sugested this site - said I could lots of info on what stuff I can claim.

I sign on Friday so plse tell me wht I need to do.

    Thx
    DW

If you become a contractor for your current employer, you may fall foul of IR35, which means 95% of your earnings will be taxable before it hits your personal bank account. I think your employer is trying to get rid of you. Don't go contracting unless you land a contract role away from your current employer.
If your company is the best place to work in, for a mere £500 p/d, you can advertise here.

It may be me but if someone told me I was effectively being let go, and taken on again with no notice period or rights - then gave a supposed legal reason for doing so - I would be listening very very carefully???

Why don't you jump in and tell Hector that it's a great idea to go from Friday permie to Monday contract, because of all the tax breaks you can screw them for? I'm sure that's what he wants to see written down in a contractor's forum. Still, he'll probably see it whether it's there or not.
