The 'good' thing about applying for permie jobs is that they typically take so long to finalise, with 2, 3 or more stage interviews that there's a chance a contract may turn up before you get to the end of the process!
So nothing to lose edging your bets, except that's one game of chicken I don't relish.
Last downturn I went for one permie interview, quickly realised it was a mistake, and lived off my credit cards for a few months till a contract turned up. Paid off the cards soon after! Fortunately the gamble worked, I could easily have been landed with a big debt, and having to go permie anyway to pay it off, very slowly.
Keep positive, and keep your options open. Even permiedom is only a notice period away from going back to contracting when things improve!Feist - 1234. One camera, one take, no editing. Superb. How they did it
