Well good luck, hopefully a contract will come through before the permie thing!

not really sure about the whole permie thing, its odd i only half heatedly applied and got a call within 5 mins of my cv hitting the agencies in box.

if that was a contract i'd never hear from them again.

Though if you go for perm jobs they do consider you for much more senior positions.

I agree - applied for a BA and they felt I was more suited to the Team Lader role - Typical applied for a permie rle just in case and got a call the next day wanting to vet me for the position -

have you noticed when the agency rings you about a permie role, you practically get a half hour interview, with regards to a contract role, its 5 mins to convince them you're the right person.

I'm going for BA stuff too.

            Good luck !

Bad time for BA's as we are normally brought in at the start of a project - so even without the downturn is is a bad time.

I have even been told I am too senior for some roles - or do they mean I am too Old/expensive for them

Yeap - especially the PM roles with BA experiance - see they just want to double up on skills and pay the BA rate - Grrrrrrrrr.

Well as a PM I know it's not easy to find a decent BA and sometimes have to do the BA stuff myself even though I don't rate my BA skills that highly having worked with some top class BA's.
Several of the best PM's I've worked with were BA's previously, it's an excellent basis for moving into the role of PM.

BA's do have a role around business improvement in what many people would regard as a non project environment. It's arguable that when times are hard and budgets tight a BA can find the best avenues for cost savings and efficiency.

I've also found as as snr BA I had to deal with a lot of chaff as PMs and have ended up doing their job , hence the reason I ended up doing Prince2 to boost me up to that level if need be.

Problem is though, as a contractor there's very little progression and no one's going to give you that gig as a PM, if your last job was as a BA, and there are very few "entry level" PM jobs on the contract side.

My quandry is, so i get a perm role to "progress" and diversify into another market (and possibly piggyback an MBA course) or do I hold firm and hope that that elusive contract might turn up????

Surprise, Surprise - the interview tomorrow has been cancelled - apparently the server is broken. It may be the week after next now - How long does it take to mend a blooming server!

But I have another lined up for next week, which I touted for myself - previous client, I sent over my CV and asked if they needed anyone as I had spoken to my ex colleagues there and they said that they needed a contractor - BUT I have to go through an agency.

                      Well needs must
I'm sorry, but I'll make no apologies for this
