God, I'd hate to be that guy... We had a CV come in from a PM on the T5 project a few weeks ago. Hasn't worked since...

It is one of the things I so despise about recruitment agents. The need to brag to everyone about how much money they earn. They have the talk, the flash car, the shiny suit, the little wife at home, the chat up lines in the lap dancing bars, but often live in a grotty 1960s semi and dont have two pennies to rub together.

Whether you earn what you say you earn or not, you are full of tulip.
A factual statement is not a boast. I didn't stipulate my salary or boast amount earned, a fellow poster decided to break down the percentage I had stated earlier after wondering why I did not go it alone. I was just trying to show that it is easier for me to work for someone rather than start up alone. No where have I boasted about how much I earn. Besides how do you know I am not being modest!?

      What's wrong with a 1960's semi?

      Skint are we?

Firstly factual statements ARE used as the basis of most boasts ("no more boom and bust" was based on fact until those facts changed "My Dick is 3 inches longer than yours"
You were showing off in true spivlike stereotypical manner. The fact that I am skint is nothing to do with it.

Awww, I was just beginning to enjoy pimp-wars

On topic though, I tend not to worry about the agency rate so long as I'm happy with the rate on offer to me. I do recognise the role played by RC's and from a business perspective I'd rather not have to find my own clients for each new role, I'm also happy not to have to chase down the client for invoices.

That said, I do prefer where possible to work with Agencies on the client's PSL though as that usually means that there is an agreement on the fee between client and agent - or at the very least the agent is less inclined to take the pi$$ and risk losing the client.

As others have said, the only time an exaggerated agency fee becomes a problem is when a client assumes experience/skillset due to the rate, but that really should have been ironed out in the interview anyway.

The problem as a contractor is that the less scrupulous agents ruin it for the better agents/agencies (I'm sure the reverse is true as well), but spending time tailoring an approach for an advertised role and subsequently speaking to an agent to find that the role was nothing more than an exercise in CV harvesting and therefore doesn't exist, is a waste of everyone's time and (I would imagine) more and more fruitless as I doubt any seasoned contractor provides much in the way of useful information.

Conversely however, I'm quite happy to share contact information with agents who do identify appropriate roles and secure relevant interviews.

Well balanced and I just wish more CUK poster's could adopt this calmer and thought out approach.

Most of them do, but no harm in giving them the occasional kicking to remind them of who's boss
