Do people here with a ltdco activly approach companies for work direct?
How do you do it? By telecon or speculative letter? (Any templates)

This is an unusual paragraph. I'm curious as to just how quickly you can find out what is so unusual about it. It looks so ordinary and plain that you would think nothing was wrong with it. In fact, nothing is wrong with it! It is highly unusual though. Study it and think about it, but you still may not find anything odd. But if you work at it a bit, you might find out. Try to do so without any coaching!
So in passing when you are speaking to contacts you mention you are availble for xyz, in the hope they say hay i have a budget of £1000 per day for taht over the next 18 months can you do it for me?

Yep. And also, when they've a budget of £1000 a day for some work that suits you, they call you and ask if you're available.
Never had to do it personally as it's always been the other way round for me. However, I have recently been invited to put in a proposal for some work and I've put in EOIs in the past.

Here’s a thought, talk to the previous contractors/permies you have worked with and see what sorts of projects they are working on and maybe see if they think extra bodies are needed. Get them to put in a good word for you, pass you the contact details of the person in charge, give them a ring email etc.
Or how about your previous employers, see if they have any requirements coming up or perhaps they may have friends colleagues in other businesses that need someone. Again they can give you contacts and put in a good word for you.
Although if you need to be told this maybe stick with the agents…
they find the co website and call. well, i say "they" but it has only happened once. still, enough to pay for the darn thing 40 times over. or someything like that. hopefully the company will get another bite one of these days...
OR, you could post your own ad on Jobserve offering 'Market Rate' with a generic description of what you do... When the punters start calling, get them to list every position they've held in the last 2 years, complete with manager's name (use the term references to justify this data collection), also request details of any current applications (to avoid submitting their CV twice). Subsequently cold call every name on your list until you're blue in the face
