One month into second 6 month extension....

and I've an offer of another role locally (30 miles in the opp direction) at £100 per day more.

Bollocks to being professional and seeing the current contract out - business is business

Do just be up front about it or should I play the dead relative card

And what you going to do if 2 months into this 'new' contract another one comes up which is another £100pd more?

You can a reputation for being a rate chaser plus it doesnt look too good on the old cv if you have a number of contracts you didnt stay very long.

TBH, I'd be inclined to see out the current contract unless the other was on your doorstep then look around.
I couldn't give two fornicators! Yes, really!

Did you go looking while already in contract? If so, why the hell did you do that???

You will get a bad local reputation – why not stick out the contract, keep in touch with the local gig, then maybe try to get your way into them once your contract comes to an end?

A bird in the hand and all of that.

If you're currently on £200 a day, it might be worth it. If you're currently on £800 a day, then no.

If you've a notice clause, then use it. Dead relative card is permie thinking, not business.

Call it sales, business expansion, growth. Surely you would be neglecting your co's best interests by not securing it the best available contracts?

If its the same length then go for it, 26 weeks (130 days @ 100) = 13k.

              Too good to pass.

why not take the middle ground and use your notice period? at least that way you don't completely burn the bridge.

even better - why not try and do both contracts? alternate weeks or 2 and 3 days per week?

Wow, no-one mentioned substitution. Is it really a sham?

I would personally look to substitute. That way, you can make a bit of margin on the subby to add to the extra £100/day.
