The alternative would be if you have a direct contact with the potential new gig and advise them that you would be keen to come over but are currently on assignment and would they be able to wait for you/consider you for another role in 5 months time?

You will get a bad local reputation – why not stick out the contract, keep in touch with the local gig, then maybe try to get your way into them once your contract comes to an end?
A bird in the hand and all of that.

I would personally look to substitute. That way, you can make a bit of margin on the subby to add to the extra £100/day.
Boomed all round...
The dead relative card was tongue in cheek chaps... I've a 4 week notice period that I could easily invoke and I've been here over a year already. The new gig is an initial 6 months too and the extra 100 pd (350 - 450) is too good to miss.

If its the same length then go for it, 26 weeks (130 days @ 100) = 13k.
Too good to pass.

If you're currently on £200 a day, it might be worth it. If you're currently on £800 a day, then no.
If you've a notice clause, then use it. Dead relative card is permie thinking, not business.

Bollocks to being professional and seeing the current contract out - business is business
Do just be up front about it or should I play the dead relative card

You can a reputation for being a rate chaser plus it doesnt look too good on the old cv if you have a number of contracts you didnt stay very long.
TBH, I'd be inclined to see out the current contract unless the other was on your doorstep then look around.
