I would personally look to substitute. That way, you can make a bit of margin on the subby to add to the extra £100/day.

The dead relative card was tongue in cheek chaps... I've a 4 week notice period that I could easily invoke and I've been here over a year already. The new gig is an initial 6 months too and the extra 100 pd (350 - 450) is too good to miss.

You will get a bad local reputation – why not stick out the contract, keep in touch with the local gig, then maybe try to get your way into them once your contract comes to an end?

To the OP, if you are really keen on the other role then nothing wrong with you giving 4 weeks notice, although I would advise trying to leave your current gig as friendly as possible, after all you never know when you might go back. I would suggest being honest with your current client and stating that the other role is closer to home and which increasingly is an important factor for you.

The alternative would be if you have a direct contact with the potential new gig and advise them that you would be keen to come over but are currently on assignment and would they be able to wait for you/consider you for another role in 5 months time?

Given the length of time you've been there, the client probably view you as a permatemp anyway. Chances are they won't bat an eyelid if you serve notice...
