number of weeks worked per year

    afternoon all

Another newbie question that I would appreciate some input on…

I'm trying to do the sums on actual income for my planned new career as a contractor. As part of this I’m making assumptions about the number of weeks I will actual be able to bill.

Current assumption is that I will be able to bill 40 weeks per year.

I'll be doing project management roels and the lcoation will be London. I know there are lots of other influencing factors here but I’m hoping to get some input from others in the same boat.

    So can you tell me?
    a. what do you do? (what skill/business area)
    b. how many weeks a year you bill?

    cheers……

          good skills.

Personally do about 48 per year - 4 years straight so far. I do as much as possible really just incase of the downturn lands me out of work for a while. Got to maintain the rainy day fund.

                2. I plan 40 weeks of work a year.

I also have a planned income. At the low end of my skillset rate, that's 40 weeks - at the high end,32 weeks. If can get to my planned income in fewer than 40 weeks I'll do so.

I won't pursue work above 40 weeks, but if it comes in from a current or known client, or looks interesting, I'll do it.

This allows me to avoid the mind-set of "Aggh, I'm on holiday and therefore not billing ££££". I do like my holidays!

This year, I've got 35-40 weeks of work already sorted until end of October. If no work, or just a few days are available Nov and Dec, it won't worry me.
