    I agree but...

    They've got the money.

    We want it.

So they get to make the rules.

Not that I think for a moment that Elan are being at all reasonable, but isn't there a risk that if Elan pay money into a private bank account of some nasty tax-dodging contractor, that they'd end up being liable for the unpaid tax?

Where they are being unreasonable is that they will not accept any other evidence apart from bank statements, cheque's etc which they want to keep on file - and probably end up in a bin un-shredded with a copy of the passport. I and probably everyone else would be more than willing to provide proof but not to risk all our money.

If they cannot grasp the simple fact that Account Name, number, sort-code provides that information then they will lose out to other recruiters as in this instance. I took the advice of the company bank who very firmly said do not send it. Elan later contacted me and asked me to get the bank to write a confirmation letter - but this is going to add more cost and approximately 7 days to the whole process which is enough to make me less competitive than those going through other recruiters so I switched to one of the other recruiters.

It's things like this that make me Arrogant smeggers. They should be getting of their fat botties and making enquiries with banks - "How can we ensure that a bank account of one of my suppliers is really a company bank account and not their private one". That's due dligence. It's the same with ID checks. If they don't take the id proofs in a face to face meeting, then they've NOT met their obligations under the law - even though that law doesn't really apply to ltdco. But no - they insist on photocopies through the post, or faxes, or scanned images via email. Arrogant morons.

I've been trying to get hold of a certain Elan consultant for 3 days now, I saw a gig advertised and rang within an hour of it going live but after 4 phone calls and another to one of her colleagues asking her to ring me I decided to apply via their website, 4 more phone calls and an email asking her just to acknowledge receipt of my application.... I have given up.

Feckin useless, its common courtesy to acknowledge someone even if they're not suitable… I’d do a ‘phonejacker’ on the bitch if I could get through.

Don't tell me - she was 'away from her desk'?

Common courtesy and pimps do not usually appear in the same sentence...

I've just got an interveiw through them, and they have also asked for a bank statement/cheque before they will issue a contract, along with a basic disclosure (standard i guess as it involves public sector work with possible access to personal data).

I am assuming and hoping that, if i get it, because i'm going through an umbrella this shouldn't matter, as i've got no chance of getting a business bank account at the moment due to credit problems.

On a side note any of you guys had to do a basic disclosure and how long did it take?

You only contract with Elan once. They're on my blacklist too.

Why not tell them that you can only provide them with the info once they have passed your co's credit check?

If this is security clearance then you need to do a search on these forums for the words "security clearance" or google the "defence vetting agency".

If this is just a credit check and to see where you have been for the last x years then it will take as long as it takes for people to get back to the agency.

How strange. The people at EDS I've spoken to seem to think that Project People have exclusivity for EDS contracts.
