    So f'n lazy

It's Ok to ask qns, but for fs, do some research too. All the answers are on this site, it's just a case of looking at the right place. Similar to giving someone a 40-page specs doc and then coming back to ask you exactly where the relevant info is, as they can't be ar s ed to read it ?

But I did actually answer the question, and collectively we have pointed out that if you want to be a contractor you have to learn to think for yourself. Else the OP will be along soon asking "What's this IR35 thing" and "Who's the best insurer" and "How do I pay myself" and "What about expenses".

Agreed we weren't very polite about how we did it. And that's another lesson all by itself...
The bit I like is where we say "go and do your own research" and the newbie takes offence and retorts, "but that's what I'm doing!"

Jobserve is the IT contractors' 'holy' mecca. Benched contractors pray there several times a day and sometimes their prayers and answered with a gig representation from the Lord's angels and possibly a gig offer, if they've done their good deeds for the day. But sometimes not. So be prepared for Satan's evil interventions with all kinds of silly bugger antics from EB Archangels who delight in messing you around by giving you false hope on jobs that don't actually exist, aren't budgeted for or else they are out on a CV fishing trawl or fishing you for references up front to make sales calls to your former contacts.

The thing I don't understand is this. Jsecure obviously found this CUK site on his/her own - unless (s)he asked someone(?) and they told him/her to just type in "contractor" and here (s)he is - so how come the same kind of search didn't give him/her lots of sites relating to job searches

(sorry about the attempts at policitcal correctness - in actual fact Jsecure came across as male)
            It's Deja-vu all over again!

It used to be Jobserve was the best place to look, but less so in the last couple of years. It's worth looking at these also:

                CWJobs
                JobSite
                ITJobBoard
                TotalJobs
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

In my field, the jobs that appear on these other sites are more often than not the same ones on JobServe. Hardly anything new turns up on these that aren't on JS, leading to duplicated effort.

I guess it depends on what field you are in.

                      Malvolio!

                      Harsh miffy, very harsh.

Jsecure, I can understand why the regulars reacted this way but I can also understand the genuine lack of understanding in your initial question. Malvolio kind of suggests the answer, Jobserve is by far the biggest site out there. A few others are:

As you progress you may well strike up relationships with agencies and clients direct which may get you work but being a newbie just plaster your CV all over these sites and apply for all the applicable jobs you can find.
Thanks for the good advice. I'm sorry if some people feel I am being lazy, or not checking out google or whatever. As it happens I know many of the job sites you are all suggesting, and I have visited many job sites already.

The reason I asked, is because no matter how much I know, I'm not someone who has been doing this for 12+ months, so I can't assume I have all the insider knowledge you guys might have. I think I'd be maybe a little foolish not to respect those who've already done it, and ask if they have anything useful I could pick up...
