You're telling him to put his career and future happiness in the hands of a generic search algorithm? That's hardly the attitude that made Britain great.
"Good" isn't always the same as "search engine optimised".

On the other hand, we are dealing with a person for whom "build up some clients" implies "look at a website", so fair's fair.

I guess it depends on what field you are in.
The agents post the same jobs on all the boards in my experience. I tend to use CWJobs because I like the darker colour scheme more than Jobserve's overly cheerfull light blue.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

You missed the point. If you want to find something generic to do with any given subject, 99% of IT types will cll Google or Wikipedia first then ask dumb questions. The OP did the opposite...

you mean that you actually know all there is to know, but you don't know that you know?

Fair enough. Positively Confucian in its wisdom, in fact. Happy New Year!

I think he's saying that he needs to know everything otherwise he might not know things that he needs to know, and he needs to know what it is that he needs to know so that he would then know them or at least know that he needs to know them. Or something

Then people wonder why we hate "Tell me everything..." questions.

(sorry about the attempts at policitcal correctness - in actual fact Jsecure came across as male)
My relatively-newbie experience of the site, for what it's worth:

There's a search button at the top of the page use it.
If you don't find what you're looking for first time, try re-wording your search.
If you still don't find what you're looking for, do what I did and read through the past few months posts one-by-one. Painstaking (but at times funny), I know, but you'll tend to find the answers to most of your questions have already been answered in earlier posts. You'll also find answers to some of the questions you've not thought to ask.

A valuable lesson to learn, and one that someone has no doubt mentioned in this thread, contracting is all about being self-sufficient. There's an expectancy that you can get off your ar$e and hit the ground running, without being told how and when to get up and where to run to!

Sorry KathyWolfe - just re-read the last post and it sounds like I'm having a pop at you - was just pointing out the useful search functionality of this site to the OP

Else the OP will be along soon asking "What's this IR35 thing" and "Who's the best insurer" and "How do I pay myself" and "What about expenses".

Agreed we weren't very polite about how we did it. And that's another lesson all by itself...
you forgot "how do I go permie?"

                      You know what, never mind.

I've researched a bunch of job sites, and I've been watching them for about three months. I've watched what every job pays, and I've learnt the average rate all these jobs are going for. I wouldn't quit a well paid job for something I wasn't sure about.

But you guys, you've been doing this for ages. I figured, I shouldn't assume I know more than people with experience in the field. I just wanted to know if there was anything else I could learn, from you guys.

I don't know why, but forums on the Internet just DO NOT bring out the best in people. Sad but true. Anyway you all have a nice day.
