    Best Contract Site

Obvious question, but what site out there do you find the best for locating new contracts? I'm just getting started and I could use all the help I can get... If you know a few, feel free to throw some URLs my way...

FFS... Troll or useless, which are you?

There's one on this site that hooks up to the bigger ones (look for the link to Contract Search), or Jobserve (don't tell me you've never heard of Jobserve) or I hear tell of a meta search engine called Giggle or something like that, which will find things to order.

Wonder what his next post will be...

Right I've conned someone into giving me some work and I think I've signed a contract. I'm here on-site... now what?

If you're genuine (which I hope not for your own sake), you'll never make it as a contractor. Learn to help yourself a little first. You may as well have asked the question... I want to go contracting, what do I do?

            Harsh miffy, very harsh.

Jsecure, I can understand why the regulars reacted this way but I can also understand the genuine lack of understanding in your initial question. Malvolio kind of suggests the answer, Jobserve is by far the biggest site out there. Also:

IT Jobs | Specialist Technology and IT Jobs | Technojobs UK

As you progress you may well strike up relationships with agencies and clients direct which may get you work but being a newbie just plaster your CV all over these sites and apply for all the applicable jobs you can find.

Don't get me wrong, it's well known I'm a miserable old SOB. But I did actually answer the question, and collectively we have pointed out that if you want to be a contractor you have to learn to think for yourself. Else the OP will be along soon asking "What's this IR35 thing" and "Who's the best insurer" and "How do I pay myself" and "What about expenses".

Agreed we weren't very polite about how we did it. And that's another lesson all by itself...

I'm not a morning person admittedly and that was quite frosty now I've read it back. The punishment didn't fit the crime!

There’s so much information on here and on the other sites that’s right at your feet. It’s all there folks. I'm a relative newbie and just wish the other noobs would help themselves. If you can't do some of your own homework, then contracting really isn't the game to be in. You need to start thinking and behaving independently.

Maybe there’s a market for a couch potatoes guide to contracting. Maybe it's a plan B but how would I reach that target market? They won't use google, they probably don't listen to the radio, tv... mmm... possibly during Jeremy Kyle. Maybe I could reach them via spam!

I'll go and sit on the naughty step now with malvolio.

I know you did Mal, it was just the quote that I highlighted that made me laugh

I totally agree with what you said about a contractor needing to think for himself but also I can understand the mind of a newbie thinking there must be a magical place where we all find contracts...

Just put a CV on cwjobs.co.uk and if you switch on the distribution option that normally brings the pimps out of the wordwork pretty quickly.

I usually do this at renewal time just to wind my pimp up as he usually phones me up the following day whinging at me that I've put a CV update on the web without telling him.
