Sold my soul to the devil

Had a chat with my boss today about where to take things now my 3 month contract is up.

Happy with my work and all of that stuff, but they also recognise that I cannot afford to go straight to being a permie as I need to think about how to leave and will need come money behind me to wait for the right contract in the future, project interesting and will last a couple of years.

    Deal is as follows:

    1. I continue as a contractor on a 3 month renewal. This will give me the get-out option after the project ends in a couple of years.
    2. After the next 3 months I go permie. On the top of the pay range, more money than I have ever seen any permie person at my level.
    3. Once permie I get to work 7:30 to 3:30 to avoid the worst of the Bradford traffic

Given the impending doom that is suggested, I think that this is an ezxcellent way of moving forward – facing facts, the daily rates I would normally be on equate to the permie rate I am moving onto. I am very grateful to current client for the opportunities, and the very high rate I would not normally be on.

Mixed feelings, but I think I am happy.

Boss is top guy – he is not telling HR I will go permie yet knowing they will challenge my renewal, we will sort out the paperwork after.

Means I need to work every day for the next 3 months then take a nice break on the permie holiday

Well, kind of, but the project will be very challenging and likely to involve trips to India and Israel. I am training people, and, really feel that the role will be excellent for my development.

I am working as part of a team of two, soon to grow to four overseeing quality in a huge organisation. As they use contractors for back-fill, I have to leave or go permie.

As my usual contract rate is similar to permie and the hours are nice to make the commute bearable, thought, may as well as I will always get home

Just a case of Travelodging once a week to not get too tired, and life will be peachy.

So you bottled it and are justifying it with "the project will be challenging."

Isn't this the job that had a bunch of screws PMing it and a moron security manager trying to get the spec and mission priorities rewritten so he could stamp his mark on it and take credit when it is done (or shift the blame onto somebody else because they didn't implement all of his reccomendations....

I distinctly remember you saying something along the lines of "Why the hell did I ever consider going permie here???" not so long ago.

Has to be said the justification sounds like something straight out of the management handbook..... What he didn't tell you is that the two people he is going to hire in the future wull be your seniors.....

          Have fun in permie land

I hope you will be resigning from CUK once you go permie?

              I think you a troll.

I am quite confident you are, and always have been, a permie. You're just winding us up.

Who's taking bets on yet another Wilmslow thread in 3 months "Don't know what to do, my contract is up and now they're saying I have to go permie..."

I'll take that bet given decent odds. I reckon management will let him know the position no longer exists in 3 months and his old role has been outsourced to Manila.

Well done. You've lied so well you sound like you have even convinced yourself. At the end of the 3 months tell them its a further contract extension or nothing.

                    You've just got yourself a 3 months+ extension.

For god's sake pretend this was your plan all along and do not be a fool and commit permicide.
