Had a chat with my boss today about where to take things now my 3 month contract is up.
Happy with my work and all of that stuff, but they also recognise that I cannot afford to go straight to being a permie as I need to think about how to leave and will need come money behind me to wait for the right contract in the future, project interesting and will last a couple of years.
Deal is as follows:
1. I continue as a contractor on a 3 month renewal. This will give me the get-out option after the project ends in a couple of years.
2. After the next 3 months I go permie. On the top of the pay range, more money than I have ever seen any permie person at my level.
3. Once permie I get to work 7:30 to 3:30 to avoid the worst of the Bradford traffic
Given the impending doom that is suggested, I think that this is an ezxcellent way of moving forward – facing facts, the daily rates I would normally be on equate to the permie rate I am moving onto. I am very grateful to current client for the opportunities, and the very high rate I would not normally be on.
Mixed feelings, but I think I am happy.
Boss is top guy – he is not telling HR I will go permie yet knowing they will challenge my renewal, we will sort out the paperwork after.
Means I need to work every day for the next 3 months then take a nice break on the permie holiday
