    What would you have said??

Client asked me for local agencies to look for a permanent person to replace me, hence I gave a couple but not all.

Boss said he wants me permie – I replied sure, if good salary, car and title, or I would stick to contracting.

He says we will have a drink to ‘discuss’ later.

    Will be an interesting discussion!

Part of the fun I guess…….

      Indeed.

Problem is that client is 60 miles each way, 120 miles return a day.

Kinda good for 6 months then flake and recharge for a couple, not so sure about every day.

Must be a VERY good offer! (Hmm.... there are some nice babes here......)

He's trying to create fear of being replaced in your mind. It's a fact that all the good people in IT are contracting, all that is left in the market is the talentless, bitter journeymen like sasguru; let your boss go through the process of hiring & interviewing the saddo's that remain, let him see the dross that is out there and draw his own conclusions

How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

Didnt you already start a thread about you going permie?

I think you actually want to be permanent... and indeed will be at your current place very soon. The boss can smell weakness and is circling like a shark.

If the drink cost less than £100 a bottle, then forget it - they'll never give you a good enough salary.
Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!

They see the £s dropping but don't they realise that permies are often as expensive in the long run as contractors?

No they don't, because most employers measure productivity by the amount of time folks spend in front of their computers, rather than the amount of work they get done. Any amount of rational argument will do little to change this perception. Sad but true.

the cheeky swine! "yes of course I'll roll over and help you replace me with a competitor". You should have looked for a couple of agencies that could replace HIM, and recommended them to his boss.
