Check on jobserve for the going rate for your role/location. If it is closer to what the agency is pulling then I'd sack everything and look for another role - but tell the client why you want to go. i.e. you like it there but you are on a fraction of the normal daily rate. If the amount the client is paying is way above the daily rate then you might still want to walk, but also tell the client before you do to knobble the agency who has been ripping them off for years.
As for how you know the amount - who cares. Somebody in the accounts dept could have told you - an invoice could have been left on the photocopier. It doesn't mater, the thing is you know.
