That's only a question you can answer for yourself.

2 streets away does sound very tempting. If I had extracted everything out of contracting that I wanted to, in particular financially, then I would be very tempted to go for a local job like that.

50k for something so close is great, and even better if they offer you training/experience into a new sector/technology/career path.

It is very tempting, but like you say Tazman, I have just finished my first contract which lasted for 9 months, although I am well financially, I want more.

But this could be an easy way to get more experience for my contracting future.

Question: Do you guys know if it is possible to negotiate a contract if a company is looking for a permie? For example if they like me and want to hire me, would it be possible to ask them to give me the equivalent salary and benefits as a day rate and turn it into a rolling contract rather than a permie job?

This isnt in Stockport is it? i've an interview there tomorrow for the same sounding type of package... am v tempted i must admit, but only because i'm still on my first contract, and the wife is due our first in September and i'm getting the jitters due to no call backs etc... applied for a couple of roles nearer home, but they appear to be tulipe agencies with no comms skills.

I do have this contract till end of July, but its murdering me. i'm doing nothing and i feel like i'm wasting away. would the 2 week notice period go against me for new contracts?

This is not Stockport... I am based in London area. No I don't think it would go against you, you don't even have to say you finished prematurely.

Yes of course you can try and convert the job into a consultancy contract, if it's that kind of job. Clients try it on in the other direction all the time.

i was approached direct by the client after i applied for a contract, who phone interviewed me then asked about what it would take to make me perm. i gave him a minimum figure, he came back with a bigger one, plus tech training, bonus and car allowance etc. overall package he talked about was nearly equivlent to contacting money but with priceless training ina global growing company.

i am going for interview, but will be talking about taking it as a contract with a possible view after x amount of time...

Always worth the conversation.
