I always try to catch up on this board when I get a moment away from the kids or at work when I get a minute.
When I first started contracting in 2001 or so, I thought it'd be easy to go from 9yrs perm to contract. From setting up the company to regstering for VAT etc, the only thing I had to do was find a contract - but I was still excited. At the time I was confident and positive that I had good skills, but soon after no returned calls & quickly finding out about the tricks of agencies(cv building)...I was soon in the position of worrying about mortgage payments and meeting bills. What was wrong with me? I kept thinking.
The worry of it all seriously effected my approach to searching for a role, I began to get short with the my mates, low in confidence and my overall attitiude was negative.
It took a good talking to by the wife and those mates I was short with to realise that I dd not take rejection well...who does?. So I took a different approach, changed the CV, called and not emailed egents, was bubbly and chatted about any old thing if I could. It resulted in agents wanting to place me, calling me back and getting inteviews. It was a corner turned
So unemployed whoever you are, don't give up, be positive, its not all gloom. If you believe you have the skills and right attitude, then you'll be ok. I'd be happy to review your CV and advise if you need. Oh, and only look at roles in the last 24hours on jobserve, otherwise you'll be the 1000'th person to apply!
People who use these boards, please be patient and dont get annoyed, don't slate people who cant type, spell etc....your little one liner replies really are pointless. If you are not going to help, then dont bother. In fact, you are probably thinking its funny with your shiny BM'er on the drive and your little manhood!
Some of us are hard working, on little rates and struggling to make ends meet
most of the time.
Yes the grammer is poor, but I've had a few ping and really dont care.
unemployed, good luck...take the replies you get on here with a pinch of salt mate

I too started in support in 1999 and soon found the market rates dropping. I then changed to developer roles soon after. I then found the best rates to be in testing and to tell the truth testing is by far easier than any development role!
Be willing to give you some tips and help. At least testing pays, at minimum £200 per day outside of London.
last week i had the great pleasure of speaking to an agency who found my cv on monster, after speaking for 5 mins about this amazing orgasmic role they have to offer, i was asked can i supply my reference at my old company before they proceed.
yeah right of course im going to do that , do these people really think others are that stupid. ???????????????
