Better rate advertised for my job...

The company I'm working for are looking for another contractor to do the exact same job as me, anyway got an email from a different agency advertising the role but the rate is £30 higher than mine!

They have offered an extension which I havnt signed yet, and when I spoke to the agent he informed me my rate was the top of their budget (obviously).

Now I find out he's lying to me, and I've sent him an email asking for a rate increase.

What's my options here to make sure I get the better rate?

Depends on the agency's margin. Agent 'B' may be offering a higher rate becasue they are absorbing the lower margin. The client may be offering the same rate to each agent.

If it's £30/day, just accept the difference as a fact of life and then decide if you want to renew with Agent 'A'. If it's £30/hour, I'd definitely have something to say...

      No it's £30 a day.

Thing is now I know this agent is probably earning bundles off me and want a rate increase before I sign a new contract, plus I dont want another contractor coming in and earning more than me for doing the same job, can't have that

Get over it. Happens all the time, your next contract could be higher than both. Fact of life, someone is always doing better than you!

Find another contract and leave, or at the very least tell the agent you're going to do it - and then do it if he does not comply.

Yeah spose that my plan, I cancelled an interview this morning as well for a contract that was an extra £70 a day at least

Only because I wanted this contract to be longer on my CV now I'm thinking I've messed up

Show the agent the offer of interview and tell him you were offered the job. Ask him if he can match the terms, that will at least give him something to think about.

Wouldn't there be a clause about working for the same company?
