Its one thing for an EB to advertise the role at a certain rate, but it's quite another to get it at that rate !
How do you know the other EB isn't simply competing with your EB for the best candidates, only to beat them down at a later date. It has been done, you know.
Anyhow, you must have been happy with the rate until now, so why be concerned with something you can't have?

It's one thing EBs screwing up for big mark ups that are unjustified and if that results in a rate differential then you need to talk to the EB, but to start comparing rates as if they are pay levels for the 'same job' (did I read you right?....
There is no other contractor yet, just a position for the people that can't be arsed to read the original post properly.
All I'm saying is I want to get more money out the agent, because he's quite obviously lying to me.
And don't talk bollocks about being inside or outside of IR35 cos this has nothing to do with it.
And as for me giving contractors a bad name, well I think your going slightly over the mark there. So please think before you make sweeping statements like that based on one post.
Don't make out your some special business person or something, we all do the same job we all know the business and how it works. We all know why contractors run Ltd companies, I have at least 3 clients on the go at one time I tender for work, and I do project based work also, my company is run as a services company but I'm the only employee. So just worry about yourself and being a business entity not me

Surely you were happy with the rate when you took the job? if you've bene there more than 6 months and theres a renewal coming up then yeah you should ask for an increase...
I suppose im looking at it from another angle cos I kept turning down my current contract because of the agency's terms (the client asked for me directly) and they kept offering better terms so i know im on more than all the other contractors.
Rule No.1 of contracting - dont discuss your rate!!

I just managed a whopping 25 quid a day increase on renewal by being nice to the agent and he said OK, makes me think his margin must be BIG ! However I'd say that is almost a first, if you really do want your 30 quid you've got to convince the agent you will walk if you don't get it and induce some kicking and screaming as a minimum.Originally posted by dotnetterNo it's £30 a day.

Show the agent the offer of interview and tell him you were offered the job. Depends on the agency's margin. Agent 'B' may be offering a higher rate becasue they are absorbing the lower margin. If it's £30/day, just accept the difference as a fact of life and then decide if you want to renew with Agent 'A'. If it's £30/hour, I'd definitely have something to say...
