Lets play catch the dodgy advert

...I normally get taken in by them. Here is a doctored version of one I've just seen...I reckon on balance that this is dodgy, primarily cos it is so vague:

"X Agency are seeking a talented Y software developer to work for several of my clients in and around London. The work will be on Y software latest version creating blah and blah, so experience of both is desired, as is any experience working as a consultant liasing with end-clients at all levels; needless to say your communication skills will be excellent. If you have the experience of Y software development, at least with Y software latest-but-one version then please send your upto date CV now for consideration and a quick turnaround. My client will pay expenses and there are permanent opportunities too if desired."

Or have I been doing this too long and bcome paranoid

First rule - avoid Hoaxley - others might be able to add to that list !

Personally I now ignore any advert that ends with the words contact John McCoy at Pathway.

The poor guy is so busy with replies from all his adverts, it would be a waste if I added mine to his list

I appreciate the concern foritis, but there's no need. Try it - you might be surprised.

            Hi,,
            i like this

            I m looking for contracts J2EE/Java London/South East
there have been at least 5 positions, all of them including the same agent, with start date immediate.. with similar job titles ..all of them were out inJanuary

I called agent before handing notice, beginning of January.. i said 'how immediate is it?'

            the guy 'soon, very soon'

i started to apply when i handed out my resig - notice...about 2 weeks ago
            no answer
well, i thought.... obviously nobody would take one which is available in 4 weeks...

i'd love to see what happen when i apply next week, where i will be free in literally couple of days..
Job has been around for nearly 40 days already
            either
            - i really have poor Cv (well, in meantime i managed to get at least 5 other interview - got 8 years background )
            - the position has already been filled (can be...but why then keep the job advert? ah yes, CV-fishing)
            - job is fake

anymore options? pls don't flame me

            marco

You've been conned. Hopefully you didn't hand in your notice just because of these positions. They're bound to be either (a) fake or (b) really bad contracts.

I have seen some contracts hanging about for many months because either the client is too stupid or stubborn to change the impossible job spec to suit the market or they just don't meet expectations once you get beyond the initial stage (ie. they advertise for up to £350 per day but actually expect you to take nearer £200).
It's my opinion and I'm entitled to it. www.areyoupopular.mobi

                  Hi,
no... i had plan B... i was not planning to rely on those.. i got immediate feeling it was a fake

but i got a better one.. actually i believe this is an oldie here..

got a call from an agent 'I got a contract for you, it matches exactly your skills.
Only problem, you need to give me references'

I told him 'I don't give them until you give me job spec'

Agent 'My client asked specifically that we only recruit people with reference before proceeding.I'll check with him if it is fine and i will call you back'

                  .... still waiting.....
