Right! Can we just establish that the "fake advert" thing is an urban myth. Yes it may have occurred in the dim and distant past but any reasonably established agency in this day and age really does not need to add candidates to there database. To put this into context, we have over 450,000 candidates on our database. Clients yes, any agency needs as many client contacts as possible, but at the moment, they definitely don't need candidates. Any advert we put out at the moment on JobServe, JobSite, CW Jobs etc gets in between 100 and 250 applicants (if you advertise service desk/helpdesk/desktop support roles that number can go up to 400+ applicants). Quite frankly (and even running an overnight de-duplication program) most agencies will be getting snowed with candidates. The other thing to bear in mind is the ad's actually cost money. For example if you buy 400 job postings per month from JobServe they stil cost £7 per ad. If you only buy 50 ads per month they rocket to £18 per ad.

Then please explain why agencies will knowingly run ads for jobs that have already been filled??
Even to the point of reposting them with a new date?Comment

If those are genuine jobs I'll eat my hat - and spend a few weeks reading the jobserve ads and it soon becomes apparent that the practise is rife. It's entirely self-defeating anyway as there is no way I will ever touch a role from said agencies, even if they happen to get a real job one of these days, purely on the basis of their jobserve antics.Comment

If Billy Jenkins of MA Associates comes on here and proves to us his roles are all real (and that he is real) then I'll gladly eat my hat.Comment

Hahahahahahaha! This is sooooooooo funny. You (and other 'businesses) advertise (in the 'good' times as well as the bad ones) in the hope of generating new business leads ie contractor cv's, enquiries etc, to glean info that may help you get an 'in.'
Of course ads cost money! You dont expect the likes of jobswerve to give you them for free do you. D'oh!I couldn't give two fornicators! Yes, really!Comment

Many organizations have charters that require all positions to be advertised outside the organisation in order to prevent the re-emergence of the closed shop mentality of the 50's 60's & 70's
These Organizations advertise outside; and even interview, while knowing full well that the position has already been filled internally.Confusion is a natural state of beingComment

Haven't done it myself for absolutely ages (no need for the stuff I'm working on at the moment), but every salesperson needs to generate leads and pipeline at some point, and it's a tried and tested way of doing so... and let's not get any high notions of "helping people" or "making a difference". We're targeted salespeople who are tasked with generating revenue for our respective organisations.
Look, I know it's not exactly ethical or "fair", but it's the way the industry is.Comment
