I haven't really been keeping an eye on the market as I am in a role, but occasionally have a look and still get a daily email from Jobserve from a search I have done previously. I did a quick search today and whilst there weren't a lot of outside roles being advertised they were all paying ~20/25% less than inside roles. The search was for front end dev contracts within the last 24 hours as this was my last saved search and there.
The inside roles were paying the same as when I last looked properly (September / October last year), between £450 and £600 per day. Whilst the outside roles were paying £325 - £450 per day. I just wondered if this was an anomaly for the day, or if this was a general trend others were noticing. If it is a general trend I guess it is down to an over supply of contractors chasing outside gigs with end clients able to lower rates or agents are able to rinse contractors as they know someone will take the lower rate.
