Without knowing what you do, it's hard to say....do you actually have a tangible product (software of some sorts), or are you talking providing people consultancy services.


So while you might be well thought of by your decision makers, your relationships and reputation could quickly go down the pan if you don't have the right people working for you.

I have very specialist knowledge in public sector funding. I don't have software but do have some BI algorithms I've written looking at data in order to inform key business decisions. Easily replicateable - its more the knowledge of knowing where to look and how to put it together than any fancy software skills. I am already working in a consultancy role at my current client (the recent IR35 changes teased this out), I would just like to expand what i do to other organisations.

I think I wouldn't get people unless I started to spread myself too thin and i could see that happening if I got a few organisations on board. I would probably use contractors that i know and trust if i could but try to ensure i keep tight control of everything.

Still no help. TBH if you can't get passed this stage on your own I'd say you are going to struggle to get anywhere near what you want.

Ah ok...The decision makers you refer to., are you particularly close to any of them? Is this a question you could ask them in confidence? Given they would be the person/role you would be selling into, you could pick their brains on the kind of challenges you are likely to face? Also, you never know, one of them might be interested in running it as a sideline venture with you.

Total dreamer/fantasist. 2.5 years in contract, you're having a laugh. I know people in London, total top of the tree, got off the ground doing this but the competition is intense. They form in small groups of elite specialists and they've been struggling to find the talent to satisfy the client requirement. Right now they are advertising contract developer roles at £ 750 a day. Is this something you feel you could muster? I very much doubt it. Just enjoy contracting for the next couple of years until the government kill it in this country would be my advice.

If you have to ask on here - in other words you don't have a network of people to find this information out from in real life - then it's a non-starter.
