    SC question cautions

Hi all, my first post on here! I have just been offered my first contracting position subject to security clearance and the powers that be (Security Watchdog) are currently in the process of verifying my history, BPSS check etc.

About 7 years ago now I got into a spot of bother and as far as I can remember I think I was given a caution, I was not convicted of anything. Don't ask how/why but I wasn't in the best place and I was young and extremely stupid, even more stupid to not remember.. Now I understand the vetting folk can do whatever they normally do to help them make a decision on someone with a caution but the problem is I can't remember if I was cautioned.......

So do I declare this on the form just in case or not? I have no intention of hiding anything and to be honest I'm leaning on saying yes and allow them to find out for themselves... Surely if it comes up blank then they can't really hold that against me can they...?

I am not yet in a position to start the form thankfully as the pre-checks are ongoing so I have requested my Police records through Acro but those apparently take 40 days...

Might have been worth reading the huge sticky we have on exactly this topic. You answer is in there multiple times.

I will summarize the huge thread:
      • Having something won't stop you
      • Not disclosing anything will stop you

Plus a police caution generates a criminal record...
