    rate expectations

    Hello!

Wondering what people do when they get agents contacting them - not giving very specific info about a role other than 'you look very suited for a role with a really good company somewhere in London' - I dont know if I'm being rude but I want :

    location
    length of gig
    rate
    contract description/project highlight/tech skills needed

I get the needed info in about 1 in 10 approaches from agents - a lot of the time there seems to be a lot of agents not giving any of the above info - I realise a lot of them are probably just fishing for info - however I wonder if my negotiating skills are 20 years out of date..?

The main issue is I get about 4-5 approaches a day and dont have time to go back and forth trying to draw the info from the agency..what do others do?

    Thanks
    Slogger

If I'm not on the market, it's easy. The anglers generally back off quickly.

If I'm on the market, I'll try and act as interested as possible until they confirm they have nothing. As you say, that's from asking specifics. If they have nothing, they don't get my cv.

If the agent does not even mention rate its a good chance the role is not real just an info dump attempt to gather cv's!!

          Ignore.

For calls, all unknown/private numbers go through to voicemail, emails like that just get deleted.

If it's a genuine role, they will give as much info as possible, and will call back.

yes - thats what I think - however was concerned I may be missing some good opportunities - a lot of US recruiters do seem to ask up front what salary you want - was wondering if this was now being transferred across the pond.

If you're out of work, you've got to listen to them all. You never know which is genuine.

This! If you're on the bench you've got to take every call in case it's a possible contract.

As you know, they should give you the expectations in the job description.
If you don’t know the expectations, you don’t know if you are a fit or not or negotiate the rate

Ask them a job description with the role description, responsibilities, skills…etc. sent by email. If they don't send...

Would they not already have the CV which is why they are contacting you ?
