And car trouble. Deciding whether to use the Bentley or the Porsche shouldn't make you an hour late should it?
I was off 2 days last week with a very bad dose of tonsilitis.

They were not happy about this and made it clear. In fact, they told the agent this morning that I should have asked for facilities to work from home when I was sick.

So, email, yes - couldn't bear the thought of another call of shame

I wouldn't be surprised if it was the email that got you kicked off the project.
If the relationship is frosty anyway, I wouldn't think it matters. Any excuse to can someone. Reminds me of the Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episode where the teachers were waiting for the kids to do anything wrong before eating them. BBP had pretty much declared himself a dead man walking anyway.

Well yes, and the reason they gave for immediate termination was that I was apparently smirking during my carpeting.

I wasn't, I just have that sort of face, unfortunately.

Yeah, I'm with this. If people like you and your face fits then you're going to get away with a fair bit - especially if they genuinely believe you're adding a lot of value. If you don't fit and/or they don't like you then it's really just a matter of time unless you're something very very special indeed.

Everyone knows they can just bin a contractor for fun, but social etiquette dictates that they come up with a vaguely reasonable excuse and being late or whatever is pretty perfect. I worked with a guy who really took the piss with lateness but we were working with an embedded consultancy and the end customer loved him (He was a good lad - just not a morning person I guess) and I believe he's actually still there. And, believe me, they had no problem ditching folk (Not me, I should add)

            +1 here too.

It looks like they are not used to engaging with contractors in any case.
You obviously didn't help the situation with 2 days off sick, in the first two weeks, however.

Suck it up, hopefully get your monies due and move on.

              I'd have been laughing too.

You're well out of it I think (though I agree you should have phoned them about being late)

Saved yourself a lot of grief. Feel for the poor sod who comes in after you.

I either email or text in when I'm late or ill, both as perm or contractor and no one has ever had an issue. Same for those that report to me, it's the easiest form of communication. I trust those working for me and so it's not a big deal

phone in the morning means they have to be around to answer it. Email means its sent, done and dusted and they can respond or not in their own time.

+1 Email or text is usually my method, also. I have never had any issues using it either.

All they need to do is turn up on time and not smile by the sound of it.
