      I'm a BA.

I know 90% of the BA's are useless.

I 100% see the point of view from some that BA role is useless.

I also see exactly the same in your roles too. Bad developers, bad testers, bad project managers, bad service managers, bad dev op. The list can go on and on.

However, we all know what a good person in each of those roles brings to the table. Each has their place in project delivery and IT.

Be thankful 90% of those out there are rubbish at these jobs, winging it, blagging everything, googling answers all day etc. as they make the job market really easy for the minute percentage of the good 10% who wake up one day and realise a life as a permie is not what they have to do for the next 50 years.

I'm glad I chose to switch to the contract market. These tulip BAs leave me plenty of work. If you struggle with interviews I would really take a look at whether you are genuinely good at what you do or just part of the 90%.

      Sorry to be harsh.

What you fail to realise is that the dev can do your job. You cannot do the devs job. Your career used to be one of my tasks.

Don't 100% of BAs say that?

Well since I started out as a dev also I can see your understanding. However whether your rate is better spent developing than chinwagging with a bunch of business users is probably down to your client to decide.

If there wasn't a need for a business analyst it wouldn't have been created as a role. BCS does not hide the fact that the BA forked itself out of the software developer role. Unsure what point you are trying to prove as it is not some magical art being able to write code either and if a BA were told to do your role to they most likely could. I moved out of development due to money being dire. A very satisfying job but ultimately you/we are worth pennies in the market now. You may turn and say the BA has tulip code skills but hey they probably think the same to your analysis skills too.

I find it very short sighted to belive that just because you can develop an application for whatever purpose it seems to give you the skills required to do the analysis part correctly.

On the point of my career once being part of many tasks if you followed a full business analysis life cycle then we have many too. I often find clients use a BA for "requirements gathering" but that equates to 1/6th of the theoretical skills a BA can cover.

I'll be sure to hand over the business case i'm currently writing to the devs to finish tomorrow morning.

Some Developers could be BAs. Some Developers could be good BAs. Some Developers shouldn't be let anywhere near normal people.

Yes, Google is a good thing. I can come up with a solution to a problem, but if someone out there has come up with a better solution, it's my responsibility to know about it.
