Agent demands I give him my NI number, othervise they cannot pay me

    Hi comrades,

So I am about to embark on a contract, but have to go through a storm of agency BS.

Agent is telling me that agency cannot pay me until I give them my NI number. What are they trying to atchieve? Agency is paying my company, not me. So why do they want my NI number?

The agents need it to comply with some legal requirents.

Do a search on here or on Google. There is a ton out there about it.

This is you not understanding or researching properly, not the agent.

      To summarise, your options are:

      1. Give agent your NI number and get paid.
      2. Don't give agent your NI number and don't get paid.
      3. Argue agent into paying you without them seeing your NI number.

I would exclude Option 2 on commercial grounds, so you're left with Options 1 and 3. Conduct an analysis of the resource implications and risks of each option, decide on a weighted scoring mechanism and see what you come out with as your preferred option.

Is giving your NI number such a big deal?

It depends if it contains the following numerical sequence: 5318008

            It isn't.
Probably once his name, phone number or address is known, its only a 2 minute Google search away, in any case.

It is more agency procedure rather than BS. Provide it and be done with it.

Its all BS, if your Ltd you pay your own NI etc, I have experienced different agents asking for different things from the same agency. Could be a rookie agent new on the job or in the contracting recruitement space

Did you bother to read the other replies before posting this. Bearing in mind it's bollocks I would guess not.
