Just to be awkward.....this did happen at last client.

I got someone in for interview at s stated rate. Agent on fixed margin. The supplier got through the interview at which point client said 'they're a bit more than we usually pay, so offer £50 less'. Not very clever IMO but the supplier agreed. Nothing to do with the agent who ended up getting a few quid a day less.Comment

Emailed HR this morning and got the reply straight away. Offer is £40 an hour and i think £50 was never on card.Comment

Remember the agent is going to try get the best candidate's so will always offer over the going rate and adjust later. It's very common.'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!! Comment

Didnt someone on here do such a thing and it ended badly for the agent when they were caught out?Originally posted by doconline View PostI would get in touch with the client (linkedin / email etc), and say 'You really liked the role, client, environment etc, but unfortunately would not be able to accept a 20% reduction in daily rates, but good luck with your project...'. See what happens then with the client / agent. remember, there are other gigs out there!Rhyddid i lofnod psychocandy!!!!Comment

Agent lied in hoping you would take it at the lower rate if offered, any chance you can get a fiver a day out of his commission to make up for his bull?Originally posted by sdyson31 View PostEmailed HR this morning and got the reply straight away. Like I said, started same day as one guy. His first gig. After we'd been there 6 months he mentioned the "rate cut" before we both started (which they hadnt tried on me). £50 a day.Originally posted by LondonManc View PostNever happened to me either. The rate is x, I'm put in at x or a similar figured, get offered gig.
The only time it did happen was when I realised that I was being used to test the water with senior management. The hiring manager was fed up with much cheapness and wanted to get someone in at normal market rates to do a proper job rather than have bob shawaddiwaddi feck it up after six months of guessing. Senior management structure wouldn't go for it and I wouldn't go for the much cheapness rate so their crapness continued.

Then he investigated further and asked the client the direct question. He was not happy.

BUT, big company, no-one at client could be bothered and agent talked his way out of it. They took this guy on perm and client paid the necessary fee to enable this as well.Rhyddid i lofnod psychocandy!!!!Comment

Looks like he is not getting any commision out of it as client has confirmed the actual offer which is £40 an hour.Originally posted by SlipTheJab View PostAgent lied in hoping you would take it at the lower rate if offered, any chance you can get a fiver a day out of his commission to make up for his bull?Comment

If the gig is really dead to you, and you don't mind burning bridges, why not ask the client how much cut the agent is working?Comment

Doubt that... Client probably just knows the full deal... So its £40 per hour to you and £45 cost to them etc....Originally posted by sdyson31 View PostLooks like he is not getting any commision out of it as client has confirmed the actual offer which is £40 an hour.

Sounds like agent was on a big fishing trip with the £50 offer... If £40 isn't enough then tell them to shove it and move on... or better still... Make sure the contract has a small notice period and keep looking while doing this gig....Comment
