I cant download a copy due to the firewall at work however I think this only means there is money to be spent in the UK however it needs brexit and IR35 to be made clearer.

One interesting thing to come out is building contractors were subject to a new "Reverse tax" law which has now been postponed for the year.

VAT Reverse Charge New Rules | Bdaily

This could be a bit of a light on IR35.

Feels like things are picking up in my area (architecture). Not getting too excited yet until I've secured something, but I'm getting more calls about relevant roles (location, skills, not too niche). Call backs from applications. Genuine interest to put me forward, etc. The phishing has died down a lot too which I guess means the agents finally have some work to do.

How is everyone else finding it?

I'm also in Architecture. There is work out there but it is slow going.

Testing market is the worse I have ever known in my 21 years contracting. There are bits and pieces around though so I am hopeful I will pick something up.

Unless you're working in test automation, I think testing would be one of the worst contracting areas to work in for the foreseeable future.

Testing - what a great idea!!! (it's never catch on...)

              What!?

You mean people still test anything nowadays?

Judging by the manifold, ridiculous errors on all the major web sites you can think of, I suspect the Testing pages of the ops manual fell out somewhere.

Isn't devops: write some code; run it once; if it completes then shove it in production and forget about it?

I returned my signed contract today for a new role starting end of the Month. 30 applications, two opportunities, offered after one telephone interview. The other opportunity was a permie job and a disappointed agent was the end result.

I've just handed in my notice and preparing to start work back in london, market still really bad in my area of work too (Infrastructure Support - Why did I sell my soul and move from ICT training ) but I'm glad I won't hit the bench for long but heart goes out to everyone still on the bench as this september was even worse than last years september.

The IT industry is going through one of it's occasional periods of thinking testing isn't a specialist discipline. It will eventually pass.
