This is a forum for contractors so..... realistically what are people doing now/planning to do?

Moving to perm roles? or changing to something else like a total career change/down size....

Outside roles are very very thin on the ground and I don't think that will change.

So that leaves inside IR35 via an umbrella....but we will be hammered if the changes come in tomorrow...I'm looking for work but I was working via an Umbrella and the deductions are steep as is with the current ER NI...

If this jumps by an extra 2% as is being touted and they lower the threshold what is the point..who is going to work to pay so much out in taxes each month...there surely a point where it isn't worth it...

      eek

Tbh, state of the market has always been like this and it's probably about time it got dumped in general

Hey cookie, if you look under business / contracts and spain nomad visa you will see some of the answers you seek.

Also, I switched almost enitrely to Linkedin premium these past 3 years and use the board and search facility to hunt for roles, the AI on there has improved quite significantly as well. As well as remote, apply for hybrid roles and offer 2 days, 4 days a month in the office and fly around the EU/UK from a Spanish base.

Any questions feel free to DM me. If you are under 35 also keep an eye on the new Portugese visa.

As for IR35, if you work out of the EU you can still work an IR35 role but you wont get thumped for 2 years and after that well, as you can see on the other part of the site I am looking for a payroll brolly that can also deal in Euros. If I can then I have a plan all the way up to tax year 5.

Most likely. I can live/work in the EU. Never thought this would be an option I would be considering. I will be making my mind up this week after the announcement.

There is a point at which you just give up and move elsewhere. I am sure one industry will be booming -- expat advice. I did get enquiries from people interested in buying my business in July but was too busy with the client. Should have kicked the client and sold it there and then.
            You're awesome! Get yourself a t-shirt.

Okay thanks, I don't have LI premium at moment, might look at getting it as I find now there is so much drivel now on LI people posting stuff more akin to Facebook...so wading through all that crap

Am not under 35 by a long shot ....and have ties so can't realistically move to Spain...

              Thanks though

I don't wade through Linkedin myself neither. what you need to do is construct a repeatable set of search terms that allow you to see posts for roles in your chosen IT area.

Interesting - nothing much to lose by giving it a try.

There are actually some good OpenAI youtube videos as well to help you hack your next role.

In terms of linkedin the main things to do:

                    a) get verified
                    b) max out your profile tags (it allows the AI to help you better)
                    c) setup a LI job board search arguments for both hybrid and remote
                    d) setup a LI search box search arugument for the same, set a filter for <1 week
                    e) Make sure your CV is no longer than 2 pages long and upload it into LI.

It has become the most tedious thread on CUK.
