Some companies still regard IT as a cost rather than a core competency. Clueful companies (albeit something that is virtually non existant in the UK) know that they are not a company that does X but rather an IT company that makes its money doing x or y or z.

Curiously enough Hiscox described themselves in almost exactly that way.

No but it is where the majority of IT roles have always been and always will be found.

              Wow!

I actually worked there and walked out early. I just thought they were trying to do creative sounding but actually barmy things and had too many young inexperienced managers. They also had a big agile project sucking up shed loads of cash to fund some weird religious process monster. However I got the feeling most people were quite content.

Two dissenters - and that's just who you know - in such a small place: I'm quite shocked.

Most do even FS sector see a lot of IT as a burden not an asset due to highly political middle management who understand cost controls but not the benefits of why strong IT systems will deliver massive savings & vastly increase your marketplace competitiveness. The smart ones who will survive overspend and will still be here in 20 years time.........!!

Someone was suggesting that it was a fact forgotten by BA during the latest meltdown .

I guess it comes from the top, as Willie Walsh is known to have a disdain / lack of appreciation of his IT people.

There are a number of small firms a long way outside of London who understand the value of IT to the financial services industry. They are going to disrupt the FS market in a major way. If you thought Uber disrupted taxis or Airbnb disrupted hotels, it's nothing compared to what's coming.
