If the expectation on both parties is to start on the date signed it's claimable.

Same for it you were terminated without notice but there are caveats around the reasons. If you have a pretty generic clause about instant termination for unreasonable behavior it gets complicated as to what unreasonable behavior is. Is not being better than a permie an unreasonable reason to bin a contractor? I would have thought so but it's probably best to debate on a case by case basis.

Oddly enough they pay out more times for both jury service and agents going belly up than the situations above. I wonder if that is because only newbies tend to struggle with this part of contracting who are also most likely not to have IPSE+ in place.

    Interesting.
Good to know, I wonder if these insurance payments are subject to tax or whether you can just trouser them without informing Hector...

Well you would think your company incurred the loss as that is who the contract is with so the money would paid to the ltd bank account and need accounting for. It also says..

The amount of the Business Interruption Losses will be paid net of VAT, as the payment constitutes a compensation payment. The Designated Member can claim bad debt relief to recover the VAT from HMRC.

I was assured by the agency several times that the role had been fully authorised by the end client but it has transpired that this is not in fact the case and that approvals are still being sought. I'm particularly upset as I have relied upon the contract to set up a company, paid insurance, put in place other arrangements etc.

Is my only sensible option to keep looking around for something else until I actually start? I don't see how I can be bound by a notice period in a contract with a start date that they have already ignored.
        It depends on the delay.

I'd guess it means that if the OP knows when they're actually going to start and it's some time soon, they wouldn't bother looking. Not the way that I'd be operating though.

If Iremember correctly at the time my accountant advised I just treat it as income.

I would speculate that if you'd have articulated your opinion in such a way, NLUK would have questioned your logic rather than simply wondering what you were on about.

I agree, probably NLUK has a complicated and dramatic mind.
